Romanticism and Literary Theory

Over the past few decades, the writing of the Romantic period has provided one of the crucial areas of focus for development in literary theory. This module aims to explore the various theoretical accounts of Romanticism and of the writing of the Romantic period and will cover the following topics: changing constructions of Romanticism; theories of literature in the Romantic period; the Wellek v. Lovejoy debate; New Criticism; The Yale School and Deconstruction; Marxism; Old and New Historicism; Feminism and Gender; Postmodernism, Ecocriticism.
