Accommodation and the College System at Lancaster

Lancaster is one of a small number of UK universities to have a college system. There are eight undergraduate colleges where you can live. The Colleges are more than halls of residence. They are one of the most distinctive and valued features of the University – eight individual communities with their own identity, administration, student executive, social scene and facilities.

Our accommodation has won ‘Best University Halls’ in the 2016 National Student Housing Survey from over 200 UK institutions, for the 6th year running. Our rooms are single study bedrooms and vary in type from standard, superior and en suite. You can find out more about the different types of accommodation and the costs. All accommodation has well equipped shared kitchens and there is a catered option in some colleges.

Students from outside Europe

Students coming to study at Lancaster from outside Europe are guaranteed a single study bedroom on campus provided you apply by the deadline. The Accommodation Office will send you information about how to apply after you have accepted your offer to study at Lancaster.

Accommodation Fees

Please make sure you know if you are paying the accommodation bill yourself or whether your home university will pay it on your behalf as arrangements can vary.

Erasmus+ students

It is not usually possible to accommodate Erasmus+ students on campus but LUSU Living can help you find accommodation off campus or you can live with a host family. The Accommodation Office at Lancaster will send you information about this after you have accepted your offer.

If you do not live in University accommodation, you will still be a member of a College.
