How to Apply
What are the entry requirements?
You are expected to have a GPA of 3.0, a credit or grade B average or equivalent.
What are the language requirements?
If you are a non-native English language speaker, you will need to submit your most recent Secure English Language Test (SELT) certificate equivalent to IELTS 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each element) or Pearson PTE Academic 62 overall with at least 55 in each element, CEFR B2-C1.
Students who have IELTS 6.0 (with at least 5.5 in each element) or Pearson PTE Academic 55 overall (with at least 51 in each element) can opt to take part in the 4 week English for Academic Purposes course instead of retaking their tests.
If you are a non-native English speaker studying at an English speaking university, please include a copy of the Secure English Language Test (SELT) certificate eg IELTS or TOEFL you submitted when you applied to your home University/College.
Students coming to Lancaster through a Medical School exchange or Erasmus+ agreement whose first language is not English are required to have one of the following Secure English Language Tests (SELT):
- IELTS - minimum of 7.0 (with nothing less than 7.0 in each element)
- Pearson PTE Academic - minimum of 70 overall (with nothing less than 70 in each element)
No other tests will be accepted and the English Language Qualification must be less than 2 years old at the time of application.
How can I apply?
The Lancaster University Study Abroad, Exchange and Erasmus+ application form is now online. In order to apply, you first need to be nominated by the appropriate Office at your Home University. Once you have been nominated, we will send you an email with information on how to complete and submit your online form.
Applications must include a current transcript, a study plan and proof of your English Language level (if your first language is not English). You may submit a Personal Statement if you wish.
We will need to receive a copy of your current passport before we can issue any visa documentation. This can be sent separately to your application if you do not have one yet.

What happens next?
Once you have completed and submitted your online application, we will:
- review your application within 2 weeks
- send you a formal offer via email
- email you accommodation and immigration information
- email your Pre-arrival Guide to help you prepare for your visit to Lancaster
- email your Orientation Booklet outlining your first week at Lancaster
