Manipal University (Mangalore)

Manipal University has emerged as a leading higher education provider in India having been established for 58 years. The University is spread over 600 green acres and is home to 26,000 students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in diverse subjects.

There are three transfer programmes to choose from depending on your background and which degree scheme you wish to study at Lancaster.

2+2 or 2+3 Engineering Transfer Programme

Students on this programme spend the first two years of their undergraduate studies in the International Centre for Applied Sciences (ICAS) at Manipal and then take the final two years at Lancaster. If students wish, they can continue on for a further year, spending three years here, to be awarded an MEng degree from Lancaster. In both cases, the degree that is awarded is from Lancaster University.

 Admissions Criteria

In the first two years at Manipal, in order to be admitted to Lancaster, students need to have reached 70% in Maths, Physics and all related subjects to their proposed field of study. Students must also have at least 60% in Standard 10 English or IELTS at 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent.

Students can choose from any one of the following BEng/MEng degrees offered at Lancaster:

  • Mechanical Engineering BEng / MEng
  • Communication Systems and Electronics BEng / MEng
  • Electronic and Electrical Engineering BEng / MEng
  • Computer Systems Engineering BEng / MEng
  • Sustainable Engineering BEng / MEng
  • Nuclear Engineering MEng
  • Mechatronics BEng / MEng

1+2 Biotechnology Transfer Programme

We also have a Biotechnology programme, whereby students spend one year of their bachelor degree in Manipal’s Centre for Molecular and Cellular Biology then come to Lancaster for the final two years of the programme.

Admissions Criteria

In the first year at Manipal, in order to be admitted to Lancaster, students need to have reached 70% in all related subjects to their proposed field of study. Students must also have at least 60% in Standard 10 English or IELTS at 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent.

Students can choose from any one of the following BSc degrees offered at Lancaster:

1+1 Double Master’s Degree Transfer Programme

Students on this programme study for one year of a two-year Master’s degree at Manipal University located in either Mangalore or Bangalore, through the Manipal Centre for Information Science, and then come to Lancaster for one full year. Credit is transferred back to Manipal for the second year of study and so students are awarded two Master’s degrees, one from Manipal University and the other from Lancaster University.

Admissions Criteria

For admission to the Double Master’s Degree Programme students must have passed their BTech degree at a minimum of 50%. Subsequently, in order to be admitted to Lancaster, all candidates with 60% overall on their Bachelor level degrees should have at least a GPA of 6 in the first year at Manipal, or if they have achieved 50-59% in their undergraduate degree, they will require a GPA of 7 in the first year at Manipal. Exceptionally, if those applicants in this latter category achieve a GPA of lower than 7, but a minimum of 6, they will also have to pass an admissions interview by a member of staff from Lancaster. In addition, students must have at least 65% at Standard 12 in English or IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent.
