Art and Science masterclass

On 7th July 2015 Lancaster University SUPI organised an exciting opportunity for art students and teachers from SLF school and LU researchers to attend a free Art and Science masterclass, with local artist and owner of Bellwood and Wright Gallery Sarah Bellwood (

The event took place at Lancaster University,as a collaboration between Sarah and researchers from two of Lancaster University's departments; the Environment Centre and Institute for Contemporary Arts. Participants learnt about UK insects and the similarities between Art and Science by using LEC’s extensive museum collection of insects and other animal specimens as inspiration in a notebook sketching workshop in the morning. These sketches were then used in the afternoon session to produce lino cutting and prints in a printing workshop. It was a very successful and enjoyable day which allowed participants to learn about a new discipline, learn new skills such as lino printing and also to meet new people.
