The photograph below is a rare picture of the History department, taken in the latey 1980s. The photograph represents a specific moment of time; it includes people who are no longer at the university, and it does not include the most recent members of staff. However, we wanted to demonstrate the remarkable continuity of the History department since a surprising number of the people pictured in the photograph arrived at Lancaster in the late 1960s and 1970s and are still working here..
Some of these ‘longer standing’ members of the History department kindly agreed to talk to us about their early university experiences. Their accounts offer a great insight into the early life of the university. (Apologies to any members of staff who we may have missed! The time constraints of this project meant that we, unfortunately, could not speak to everyone)
