For students of some countries where generally the pre-University education system is broader than that of the UK, or indeed is one year shorter than that offered here, a foundation programme, or “top-up” course may be needed. These kinds of programmes are normally one –year in duration and are offered by a wide variety of educational institutions.
The International Foundation Year, based at the International Study Centre on campus, is a rigorous three-term course of academic subjects, study skills and English language training designed specifically to provide international students with a direct path to degree study at the Lancaster University.
Lancaster also runs in-country one-year Foundation Programmes with selected partner institutions overseas. These are for students who wish to stay in their own country while they prepare for undergraduate study at Lancaster.
