Copyright law in the United Kingdom is subject to the provisions set down in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and subsequent ammendments.

However the provisions in the 1988 Act cannot be used to circumvent any licensing scheme which may exist in relation to the work you wish to have copied.

Where there are no such schemes in place, then certain provisions in the Act can be used to enable copies to be made, subject to any limitations set out in the clauses dealing with each provision.

LUTV staff may ask why you wish a copy to be made, and will advise whether your proposed usage is allowable under the terms of the Act or any licensing scheme which may be in place relating to the material you wish to have copied.

Some of the provisions in the Act are interpretative, so we may ask the University's copyright officer for clarification. We will wherever possible, try to accommodate your request.
