B. Individual Letter Forms.


Serifs are of two main types:

  1. Flat horizontal strokes following the movement of the pen forwards.


  2. Triangular serifs:
    used vertically to finish off thin horizontal pen strokes:


    They can be used to create curved space inside the letter while leaving it relatively oblong outside.


    The serifs on N run parallel to the diagonal.
    Those on S create two parallel oval spaces.
