In doing so, the project could\u00a0ascertain and improve activists&#8217; online presence to increase\u00a0the chances of effecting positive social change.<\/p>\n<h3>Who were involved?<\/h3>\n<p>Manchester Friends of the Earth and a range of Manchester\u00a0activists were involved, and coordinated into focus groups,\u00a0led by Lancaster University academics from the Linguistics and\u00a0English Language Department with technical support from\u00a0computer scientists.<\/p>\n<h3>What new digital technology was developed?<\/h3>\n<p>From an analysis of the language used researchers came\u00a0up with a set of guidelines for using digital technology and\u00a0maximizing tweet influence in the social activist context.
