{"id":5,"date":"2013-11-05T09:57:28","date_gmt":"2013-11-05T09:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scc.lancs.ac.uk\/research\/projects\/catalyst\/?page_id=5"},"modified":"2013-12-18T15:59:05","modified_gmt":"2013-12-18T15:59:05","slug":"projects","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/catalystproject\/projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 id=\"page-title\">What is a Catalyst Project?<\/h2>\n<div id=\"block-system-main\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<article id=\"node-page-6\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>There are two types of sub-projects in Catalyst: &#8216;sprints&#8217; and &#8216;launchpads&#8217;. In both cases, Catalyst provides financial, human and technological resources for communities and academic researchers to work together for a fixed period of time on community-driven research problems. Selection of sprints and launchpads is through a competitive bidding process (see below for details of open calls).<\/p>\n<h2><a title=\"Sprints\" href=\"sprints\/\">Research Sprints<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Large projects \u2013 or research sprints \u2013 are six to nine month intensive research investigations, bringing together academics from different disciplines and members of a community, who work together to carry out research towards Catalyst\u2019s main research questions.<\/p>\n<p>Communities and academics involved in research sprints are be able to draw on 4 post-doctoral researchers, the input from academics from a range of disciplines (computing, environmental science, design, management, social science) as well as equipment and resources for expenses.<\/p>\n<h2><a title=\"Launchpads\" href=\"launchpads\/\">Launchpads<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Small projects \u2013 or launchpads \u2013 are much smaller projects, similar in spirit to research sprints, but that perhaps are more speculative or proof of concept. Launchpads are given a small amount of funding, typically \u00a32-10K, for launchpad activities.<\/p>\n<h2>Get Involved:<\/h2>\n<p>There is an open ended call for for\u00a0<a title=\"Get Involved\" href=\"\/get-involved\/\">Catalyst launchpads<\/a>.
