{"id":10604,"date":"2026-02-26T11:56:29","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T11:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/cemore\/?p=10604"},"modified":"2026-03-14T11:58:27","modified_gmt":"2026-03-14T11:58:27","slug":"jeremy-rifkin-planet-aqua-recording","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/cemore\/jeremy-rifkin-planet-aqua-recording\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeremy Rifkin &#8211; Planet Aqua recording"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On February 26<sup>th<\/sup> 2026, CeMoRe hosted the 10<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary John Urry Lecture online, delivered by \u2018visionary\u2019 thinker and policy consultant, Jeremy Rifkin.\u00a0 Jeremy presented on his latest book, <em>Planet Aqua: Rethinking Our Home in the Universe <\/em>(2024), while also weaving in arguments from his 22 bestselling books (translated into more than 35 languages) about the impact of scientific and technological changes on the economy, the workforce, society, and the environment.\u00a0 The event was opened by Lancaster University\u2019s Vice Chancellor, Professor Steve Decent, and Jeremy\u2019s talk was followed by a Q&amp;A that was opened with comments from Professor Bron Szerszynski.<\/p>\n<p>We are delighted to share a recording of this event. Our planetary hydrosphere, which animates all life on Earth, is rebelling in the wake of a global warming climate, unleashing blockbuster winter snows, biblical spring floods, devastating summer droughts, heatwaves and wildfires and deadly autumn hurricanes, wreaking havoc on ecosystems, infrastructure, and society. While fossil fuels lit the fuse, it\u2019s the hydrosphere that\u2019s ringing the death knell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn&nbsp;<strong><em>Planet Aqua<\/em><\/strong>, Jeremy Rifkin argues that we have misjudged the very nature of our existence and to what we owe our lifeline.
