What follows is a photo-essay on where we are now, what happened today, and the next steps we will take to make our experiment happen on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> November.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image admin_label=&#8221;Image&#8221; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/cemore\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/drift1.jpg&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;off&#8221; url_new_window=&#8221;off&#8221; use_overlay=&#8221;off&#8221; sticky=&#8221;off&#8221; align=&#8221;left&#8221; force_fullwidth=&#8221;off&#8221; always_center_on_mobile=&#8221;on&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;on&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_width=&#8221;0px&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;|100px||100px&#8221; disabled=&#8221;off&#8221;] [\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; text_orientation=&#8221;left&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;on&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; disabled=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;20px|20px|20px|20px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The day began with a round of presentations and critiques on experimentation with the idea of Utopia.\u00a0 I presented from a Drift Economy station comprising of a shoe-box diorama of the Drift Economy Lab and one example of a drifting-device: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aerocene.com\/\">Aerocene<\/a> Explorer sculpture prototyped by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomassaraceno.com\">Studio Tom\u00e1s Saraceno<\/a> (Berlin) in collaboration with Nick Shapiro (Public Lab), Sven Steudte (Radio Amateur, Berlin), Alexander Bouchner (Architect, Berlin) and colleagues at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.\u00a0 Bron and I have worked closely with Studio Saraceno over many years in various experiments with atmospheric sensing and movement. There is space out here for participants to launch seeds, leaves, balloons, and other drifting things in order to experience first-hand how they move in the \u2018flow zone\u2019 of this atmospheric space.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image admin_label=&#8221;Image&#8221; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/cemore\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/drift5.jpg&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;off&#8221; url_new_window=&#8221;off&#8221; use_overlay=&#8221;off&#8221; animation=&#8221;off&#8221; sticky=&#8221;off&#8221; align=&#8221;left&#8221; force_fullwidth=&#8221;off&#8221; always_center_on_mobile=&#8221;on&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;|100px||100px&#8221;] [\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; text_orientation=&#8221;left&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; disabled=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;20px|20px|20px|20px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Below and to the side of the Caf\u00e9 21 Terrace is a relatively open field where we are thinking about launching an Aerocene Explorer sculpture in order to offer this device as a drifting entity par-excellence and as part of a future mobile utopia based around drift.\u00a0 It would be a weather dependent event: we can only fly the Aerocene sculpture if it is sunny, and the wind is relatively still.\u00a0 This part of the experiment therefore requires an attunement to local weather conditions that we find very informative in our thinking about flows and drifts.
