It provides an opportunity for members\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and affiliates<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CeMoRe<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to discuss their own research and provide helpful insight to others\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">something as a first year PhD student, I greatly appreciate<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0over a brew and some biscuits.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the most recent kitchenette, which took place on 20<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0January, Nicola Spurling and I led the disc<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ussion on children\u2019s mobilities. A topic that we have both been\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">focusing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0on in our own research, mine in my PhD research on children\u2019s agency in climate change<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and Nicola in her DecarboN8 project.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I began the session by discussing Sue Milne\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(2009)\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">article<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2018<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Moving into and through the p<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ublic world: children\u2019s perspectives on their encounters with adults<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, in which children living in Scotland remarked on their\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mobility through their local environment<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. The article\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">highlig<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hted\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that as children moved through public space, they became aware of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ir<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">perceived \u2018child\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">status\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0reflected in the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">treatment they received from adults and their limited agency to participate and move through public spaces. This prompted insightful comments and recommendations f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">or further research from participants including Colin Pooley, Stephanie\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sodero<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and Lynne Pearce, including a discussion surrounding children\u2019s agentic mobilities and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">how children\u2019s constrain<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s and freedoms<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0have changed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0over time.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This has prompted me to further investigate ideas of agentic mobility in reference to children\u2019s involvement in climate change<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and how imagined mobilities of power and agency can extend into the physical world. &#8211; proving the kitchenette to be both enjoyable\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">productive!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Nicola\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">introduced\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Barker<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0et\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">al\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(2009)\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Road Less Travelled<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">, which forms the introduction to a special issue of Mobilities Journal\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">focused<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0on children\u2019s mobilities.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">hi<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">article\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">provides a useful introduction to some of the key debates on children &amp; young peoples\u2019 mobility, and the key disciplines that have researched this topic to date. In partic<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ular, and for those new to the field of children\u2019s mobilities, it highlights three\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">key<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0conceptual\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">re<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">framings<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0that social scientists have contributed to psychological, deterministic and positivistic models of child development.
