Independent Work Based Learning (10 or 20 credits)


As part of CETAD’s courses you may be able to negotiate to seek accreditation for an aspect of your own independent learning. For example, as part of your personal and professional development, you may be actively engaging in some organisational work based learning opportunities such as staff workshops, a conference and/or other professional development activities. Enrolling to complete an Independent Work Based Learning course will enable you to identify your own learning objectives and learning outcomes, map out how you are learning and reach agreement about how you might evidence that learning and be assessed.

If this is an option you wish to pursue you will be supported by your Work Based Learning Mentor to prepare and submit a negotiated experiential learning agreement. This will be formatively assessed to ensure your planned study will meet the requirements for your overall scheme of study.

Duration, attendance and delivery

You will be supported by your Work Based Learning Mentor through a combination of face-to-face and online interactions.


At the end of the course you will undertake a summative assessment. You will negotiate the type of assessment with your module tutor as the assessment strategy needs to reflect your learning topic and enable you to demonstrate the application of your  learning to practice.  Typically students submit a portfolio with supporting evidence of their workplace learning or choose to deliver a presentation

Entry requirements

Entry onto this course will be negotiated and discussed with your Work Based Learning Mentor during the personal planning phase of your individual programme.
