The platform can be accessed directly <a href=\"http:\/\/corpora.lancs.ac.uk\/bnclab\/search\">here<\/a>. The BNClab platform contains\u00a0 samples from two major corpora of British English:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-375 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/corpusforschools\/files\/2018\/09\/corpora_updated.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"737\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/corpusforschools\/files\/2018\/09\/corpora_updated.png 737w, https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/corpusforschools\/files\/2018\/09\/corpora_updated-300x105.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 737px) 100vw, 737px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The <strong>structure of the data<\/strong> in BNClab thus offers different types of exploration of spoken British English such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Focus on current language use<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Comparison of changes in the use of spoken English between 1990s and its current use<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">BNClab can be used with students in <strong>two key areas<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Searching the two corpora<\/span>: the corpora can be searched for frequency information about individual linguistic features but the website also provides an analysis of the influence of social factors on language use. These are worksheets that focus on a specific question in spoken language use and explore it with a series of practical and discussion tasks.
