My research covers a variety of practical and theoretical problems arising in Operational Research. On the practical side, I have focused on a number of issues in transportation and logistics domain. Some of these problems led me to study new challenges in networks, while others motivated my study of stochastic programming problems. My research has had substantial impact on companies and industries worldwide.
My current research activities focus on:
• Air traffic flow management • Assignment of scarce resources with fairness considerations• Dynamic multimodal transportation planning• Energy and electric power markets • Optimisation under uncertainty
Professional Role
I am Deputy Dicerctor of NATCOR and I am involved in the Lancaster University ATLAS Programme as a mentor and reviewer.
Career Details
Prior to join Lancaster University, I was Assistant Professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca.
I also had several visiting positions in Academic Institutions overseas, including M.I.T., Univ. of Arizona, Univ. of Guelph (Canada) and Univ. of Maryland. In 2007, I was Fulbright Fellow at M.I.T.
Qualifications
07/2017: Fellow of Higher Education Academy
09/1998: Professional qualification for engineers. Registration to the “Consiglio Nazionale degli Ingegneri” (ITALY).

I am looking for PhD students to work in the broad area of optimisation. Experience in computer programming is highly desirable.
