Professor Terry Eagleton

Professor Eagleton, the internationally celebrated literary scholar and cultural theorist, is Distinguished Professor of English Literature within the Department of English Literature and Creative Writing.

Professor Eagleton has given a number of highly prestigious public talks and appears regularly on radio and TV. He has been described by The Independent, ‘the man who succeeded F. R. Leavis as Britain's most influential academic critic.' He is a public intellectual, a role he takes on, for example, in The Meaning of Life (2007), a series of lectures delivered at Yale University in 2008 since published as Reason, Faith, and Revolution, and in his 2013 book, Across the Pond: An Englishman's View of America.
