We have a unique Year One which allows you to enrich and inform your writing by combining Creative Writing with other subjects.

A tradition of Creative Writing

We celebrated 45 years of Creative Writing in 2013. We were one of the first universities to teach creative writing and believe in making it a distinct subject.

Study Abroad & Placement Year

You can study a year abroad and we offer teaching placements in schools and placements in heritage and creative industries.


Specialist units allow you to develop your work and tailor the course to your own interests. Each module is taught by a practicing writer.


Our graduates have gone on to be authors, poets, screen writers, journalists, new media and content writers. We build practical skills into our modules so that students can approach their chosen profession with confidence.

Student journals

Offer you the opportunity to publish your own work and edit work by others. We have four in-house journals run by staff and students.
