Insight into Sales, Marketing & Business Start up

Advice from an experienced LUMS Advertising and Marketing graduate

Chris Walthew graduated from Lancaster University in 1999, with a degree in Advertising and Marketing. He moved to London, worked for a couple of marketing agencies, then moved into sales working for an early cloud software start up where he became sales manager. At the age of 25 he set up a telemarketing company, Prospect Research, which now employs 20 staff.

His latest venture is a climbing centre – Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge – which he describes as “climbing walls meet theme park”. A very different start up to Prospect Research particularly with the scale and investment involved from the beginning and dealing with b2c rather that b2b.

In this session Chris will talk about his experiences in business and also give some tips on what you can do now as a student, if you are interested in setting up your own business now or in the future.

When? 1-2pm, Friday 20th January

Lancaster alumnus launches ‘Kreative Krowd’

Former LUMS PhD student launches ‘Kreative Krowd’

kreativekrowd1

Dr Muddassir Ahmed graduated from Lancaster University last year with a PhD in Management Science.

Kreative Krowd, a crowdsourcing market place, was launched earlier this month (February 2015), and hopes to provide unique opportunities for creative freelancers looking for work experience, part time work and the chance to build up a portfolio and connect with potential employers on a digital platform.

Kreative Krowd is considered the first unique freelance marketplace for creative services and products, and moves away from the traditional route for sourcing work through recruitment and advertising agencies. Dr Muddassir hopes this revolutionary approach will empower creative individuals to showcase their talents and will create opportunities for students and professional freelancers alike.

Whilst Kreative Krowd is only in its infancy, the team have already secured a £6000 start up loan from the Virgin Start-Up, partnered with the StartUp Loans scheme, as well as a mentorship programme and support from Birmingham City Council’s Enterprise Catalayst Initiative.

Kreative Krowd has free subscription plans and more information can be found here.

**Dr Muddassir will be joining us as a guest entrepreneur at our Start Up Stories event on 11th June 2015- more details coming soon!**
