Genetically Modifying Galaxies
Abstract:
Understanding the formation of galaxies can reveal a wealth of information about the universe. Studying the history of galaxies and how they are affected by their local environment requires detailed simulations. However, randomly drawn initial conditions will rarely, if ever, produce the "same" galaxy with a different environment. I will discuss how this problem can be solved with the method of `genetic modifications' to initial conditions, and what we can learn about galaxy formation and cosmology using this method.
