Giorgio Locatelli, University of Leeds will present a seminar to the Management Science Department
Abstract: Historically, project management academics and practitioners have mostly focused on the planning and delivery of infrastructure. However, several infrastructures are reaching their end-of-life calling for decommissioning projects. Because of their peculiar nature, decommissioning projects need to be planned and delivered in a completely different way for construction projects. Moreover, decommissioning projects are long, complex, and expensive and there is still limited understanding of what affects their performance. This speech raises awareness about decommissioning in the project management community, explaining the key challenges in the planning and delivery of these projects and the key role played by project management.
