This course will introduce you to the Linux command line and walk you through:

  • Navigating files and directories
  • Creating, copying, deleting and editing files
  • Joining commands together to make them more powerful
  • How to perform the same actions on many files (loops)
  • Save commands and recipes in a file (scripting)
  • Finding files

This course will closely follow the Carpentries lesson: https://swcarpentry.github.io/shell-novice/

The course will be conducted in-person and will run from 9:30 until 15:30 with a few breaks throughout the day.

For the course, you will need your own computer with Linux installed. If you wish to learn the command line, but do not have a Linux machine then please use the Universities MyLab service during the course - if you are not sure how this works, or how to use it, then please email me.

This will be an in-person course based in the Digital Scholarship Lab in the Library.
