This year's Professor Sir Roland Smith CEO Lecture will feature Sir Tim Smit, Co-Founder of the multi award-winning Eden Project
Sir Tim Smit is best known for his achievements in Cornwall. He is the Executive Vice-Chair and Co-founder of the multi-award-winning Eden Project, one of the world's best known ecological visitor attractions. He is also the Executive Co-Chair for Eden Project International which aims to have an Eden Project on every habited continent by 2025.
One of Sir Smit's most significant accomplishments was 'discovering' and then restoring 'The Lost Gardens of Heligan' with John Nelson. This is now one of the UK's best-loved gardens according to the BBC Countryfile Awards (Mar 2018). Sir Smit has said that at this year's Professor Sir Roland Smith CEO Lecture his presentation will involve 'guts and fungus, passion and a tinge of optimism'. He highlighted that "Great revolutions catch you by surprise and are only foretold in hindsight! Perhaps the greatest so far has started, so I shall try to pretend it forms part of the future that remains ours to make. My lecture will include a discussion about why Eden Projects symbolise something important in an age where environmentalists are side-lined as irrelevant, but most of all will throw down the gauntlet at those who stand idly by while barbarians rage at the gates of science and truth."
