The Margaret Fell Lecture Theatre on North Campus has been handed over to the University, marking the completion of the £5M construction project.

The new building connects to the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences (FASS building) on the North Spine near to the Great Hall. It is hoped that the building will become a multi-functional space for students and conferences out of term time due to its capacity to seat up to 400 people* (when the COVID restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so).

Anna Cockman, Head of Estate Development (Project Delivery), Facilities commented “This fantastic new facility will provide the University with a high quality teaching space, the largest lecture theatre on campus. This project has been delivered in true collaboration with colleagues and students across the University to ensure that we provide an inspirational, multipurpose space in the heart of campus. I look forward to a time when this new lecture theatre can be used to maximum capacity so that everyone can enjoy this new facility.”

The Lecture Theatre will officially open in the New Year with a further announcement planned for the start of term.

More information about the Margaret Fell Lecture Theatre is available on the Facilities Website.

*Due to Covid-19 the revised capacity limit for the lecture theatre is 48 people.
