"old fashioned but clean and reliable and right in the centre of Lancaster ideal for exploring the City if you haven’t been before or just like to be close to the shops!. Good breakfast, buffet service at weekends. Have stayed various times of year £62 b&b per room per night."
"...an old hotel. Swallow Hotel I think. Needs huge update. Ancient lifts, old style rooms, very similar to the Shining Hotel, and a "very poor, you’re certain to be blocked in" car park."

"Part of the Mitchell chain of small hotels. Located alongside the Lancaster canal with great views onto the lock from their dining room. If you want a countryside location with easy access to University and the City this is for you. We spent two nights (as part of a week’s holiday in the area) taking the canal walk alongside this hotel and other various canal walks around Lancaster. Room was large and bright and clean with a view along the length of the canal and a beautiful sunset! Good breakfast and evening meal was tasty as well. In July £62 b&b per room per night. "
"We recently stayed at The Mill at Conder Green which is located on the Lancaster canal not far from Glasson Dock. It has been refurbished to a very standard, the staff are very helpful and gave us very easy directions to the university which avoided going through Lancaster. The food was excellent. The best part though is its very rural location despite being only 10 minutes drive from the university and Lancaster itself. We will definitely be using it when we bring our daughter back up for her 2ndyear in October. We’ve also posted a review on laterooms.com."

"...part of the Mitchell chain. Large clean room but the whole place lacks atmosphere although the staff are friendly. On the two occasions we stayed the hotel restaurant was empty and people seem to prefer the bar area. Food reasonably priced but not good. Very convenient for university if you want to stay nearby."

"Last year we also used The Clarendon Hotel in Morecambe. It’s a much more traditional hotel on the sea front. Comfortable rooms, good food and an excellent Full English!"

"Great pub come hotel restaurant. Very popular with locals and enormous helpings - no room for pudding. Rooms are located in a separate block at the back of the pub with its own drive for parking. A door at the rear brings you into the back of the restaurant where you walk through towards the bar at the front. The bedroom was large and cheerful with Molton Brown accessories in the bathroom (lovely). An excellent full breakfast is served in the restaurant in the morning. End September £51 per room per night then breakfast on top full english £7.50 pp. Only downside, it is not easy getting to the University from this hotel because it entails driving through Lancaster city so allow plenty of time."

"...very indifferent and you have to pay extra for your breakfast!"

"We first visited there out of interest...we have visited there several times since. The last visit was in our ancient motorhome which is quite a large beast (22 feet long). The landlord was very welcoming & allowed us to stay overnight in the car park free of charge over a bank holiday weekend. The breakfasts were superb, ranging from a huge size full English to simple bacon butties & cereals - reasonably priced too (4 of us for £21 including drinks & juice)."

"have now used Travelodge at Forton motorway services on 3 occasions. Plus side - only 7 minutes drive from Uni and family room is only £55 for up to 4 people per night. Only supposed to be max of 2 adults but seldom anyone checks so our student daughter stayed with us for 2 nights too. Some of interior decoration is 'tired' - our bathroom last time round was quite mouldy but otherwise room was clean and comfortable. No frills accommodation - no freebie toiletries etc but you can borrow things like hairdryers. Had breakfast in Moto services - £6.99 for traditional fry up. Better value would be £2.99 breakfast at the Plough in Galgate. Normally no south bound entrance to Travelodge from M6 but we found a back road from the A6 - bit dodgy in the dark but saves having to go to next junction and turn around"
"...ended up at the travelodge which was a complete nightmare with the M6 roadworks and although the room was fine, basic but clean and surprisingly little noise from the motorway it wasn't that cheap and breakfast is never included at travelodges."
"A great little B&B. Cosy rooms, fantastic breakfast and always a warm welcome. We always try to book in there before trying anywhere else."

"Stayed a few times, all bar one in the Lancaster House. This is excellent, food and drink pricey, so you have to watch out. With this place you’re better checking the website, www.elh.co.uk and looking out for offers. We tend to go when there’s 40-50% off so you can stay as a couple on a huge exec suite for £90 Band B which I find good."
"we were up at Lancaster last weekend and stayed at the Lancaster House Hotel, which we found excellent - very good service from the helpful staff. Amazing to think it cost almost the same as the Holiday Inn on Caton Road..." (see below)
"...ticked all the boxes - dead convenient, clean and not a bad price. We were up against time and it seemed like the best idea. We weren't disappointed."
