The identity and function of the hormone were discovered by <a href=\"http:\/\/history.nih.gov\/exhibits\/rodbell\/text\/1_Gillemin_Schally.htm\" class=\"cc-route-enabled\" data-editable-link=\"http:\/\/history.nih.gov\/exhibits\/rodbell\/text\/1_Gillemin_Schally.htm&amp;target=_self\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Guillemin<\/a>.&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/nobel_prizes\/medicine\/laureates\/1977\/schally-autobio.html\" class=\"cc-route-enabled\" data-editable-link=\"http:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/nobel_prizes\/medicine\/laureates\/1977\/schally-autobio.html&amp;target=_self\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew V.
