The Zapatista struggle in the Chiapas state of Mexico has been one of the most inspiring struggles in the world showing the possibilities of resisting neoliberalism and creating a new world. Paul Chatterton from Leeds University and the solidarity group Kiptik will explain the origins of the uprising, give an update on the current situation and outline what it means for social movements fighting against for greater autonomy today.

Dr Paul Chatterton's research interests include urban culture (focusing on youth cultures of resistance, and regeneration policies), protest and social movements, and sustainable and international development (with a focus on the Argentinian popular rebellion and the Zapatista uprising in Mexico).
