Masculinities and Violence in Latin American Cultures

Date: 10 December 2010 Time: 11.00 am-6.30 pm

Venue: Bowland North Seminar Room 23

We are delighted to welcome academic colleagues to Lancaster for this JISLAC regional seminar on the theme of 'Masculinities and Violence in Latin American Cultures'.

We are very much looking forward to a stimulating and productive seminar within a new and growing research network. The first event we organized was a panel at the annual conference of the Society for Latin American Studies in 2008 (Liverpool), an event which provided a solid basis for the publication of a special issue of the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies (September 2010).>

Similarly, our intention is for today's event to lead to a substantial publication. We will explore the different options informally during the course of the day, and then discuss the next steps to be taken at a short meeting at 5pm.

It is particularly pleasing to note that today's speakers are working within different disciplines, with different research aims, as well as different methodologies and objects of study, and that there will be opportunities for an engaging interdisciplinary dialogue in which we can all participate.
