Thomas Lutz, 'Topography of Terror/Culture of Remembrance in East and West Germany: A ComparisonDate: 4 December 2014 Time: 17.00 Venue: Cavendish Colloquium Dr Thomas Lutz is Head of the Memorial Museums Department/Topography of Terror Documentation Centre (Berlin) Note that Dr Lutz will host a workshop on 5 December: 'The role of contemporary witnesses and importance of memorial sites as authentic places.' Venue (tbc) Dr Thomas Lutz earned a Ph. D. at the Institute for Social Sciences and Education in History and Politics at the Free University in Berlin. He was awarded with the Joyce and Arthur Schechter Fellowship (Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies - Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D. C.). He is Head of the Memorial Museums Department at the Topography of Terror Foundation in Berlin, Germany and one of the German delegates of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. For many years Thomas Lutz has coordinated and advised memorial museums and sites dealing with Nazi victims. He is the author of Zwischen Vermittlungsanspruch und emotionaler Wahrnehmung. Die Gestaltung neuer Dauerausstellungen in Gedenkstätten für NS-Opfer in Deutschland und deren Bildungsanspruch Technische Universität Berlin (2009) [transl. From Educational Aims to Emotional Perception: The Search for a Middle Ground between Current and Future Demands in the New Exhibition of Memorial Museums for the Victims of the National Socialism in Germany] and articles in related areas. He is the editor of the GedenkstaettenRundbrief, a volume periodical about memorial museums which has been issued 175 times and also an online-journal. Contact: Who can attend: Anyone
