Richardson Institute - Internship Co-ordinators The Organisation The Richardson Institute is the oldest Peace Studies centre in the UK and is an interdisciplinary forum for research on peace and conflict. Based within the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion (PPR) at Lancaster University, the Richardson Institute brings together academics and students who are committed to undertaking contemporary research and to developing outreach activities. The RI runs a highly successful student internship programme (RIIP) that provides advanced Undergraduate Students with opportunities to undertake research projects for external organisations across the academic year. Previous interns have worked with organisations including RadicalisationResearch, which aims to provide policymakers and journalists with easy access to high-quality research and information on the issues of radicalisation, extremism and fundamentalism, and Maslaha, which works to promote a better understanding of Islam and tackle social issues, stereotypes and misconceptions (further information the RI and its activities can be found on its website: http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/fass/centres/richinst/). For the coming academic year, the RIIP will open its programme to students from across FASS who have an interest in undertaking research on the themes of challenging stereotypes, peace and conflict. The programme will be working on projects with organisations including Maslaha, Football Beyond Borders, International Alert and The Institute for Strategic Dialogue. The Opportunity The RI would like to recruit two Postgraduate Research students from across FASS to support the promotion and delivery of the RIIP for 2015-16. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidates to develop teaching skills and gain experience of working in a research centre as part of a dynamic team of academic staff and PhD students. Conditions The hourly rate for this work is £14.58 and is inclusive of holiday pay (payable in monthly instalments upon production of timesheets). Successful candidates will be expected to commit to an average of four hours a week for 32 weeks throughout the academic year. This is a temporary post that will commence in October 2015 and end is expected to end July 2016.
