Ethical Issues in Participatory Research I

A Three Day workshop - 17th – 19th December 2007

Convened by Professor Carole Truman

To be held in meeting rooms 2 & 3 in the Institute for Advanced Studies, Lancaster University

Indicative Programme

This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to develop an understanding of participatory approaches to research, and to explore the ethical aspects of such research approaches. The workshop will consist of presentations from academic researchers, and from lay researchers who have been involved in research studies. Each workshop session will invite participants to share their own experiences of participatory research and/or to take part in group work sessions to explore ethical issues which relate to participatory research. The event should appeal to those with little, or limited experience of participatory approaches to research (a subsequent ‘advanced’ workshop, later in the programme will be aimed at those with greater experience of participatory research).

Day One - Monday 17th December

Workshops and presentations from academic researchers who are currently active in participatory research. Professor Carole Truman will introduce ideas about participatory research, and workshop participants will then work in groups towards setting an agenda around ethics issues in participatory research.
