General comments

The project is contained in a slim plastic binder; the back and side of the binder is red, and the front transparent; the front cover page is visible through the front of the binder. The back cover of the binder is extremely bruised, and indentations on the inside indicate that it has been used as a surface for writing on.

Inside, the project consists mainly of sheets of white, A4 paper (mostly plain, some lined, one graph) inserted back to back into transparent plastic sleeves. These are held in place against the back of the binder by brass butterfly clips inserted through holes in the side of each sleeve. There are also a few loose sheets, inserted between the last two sleeves, at the back. Some of the plastic sleeves, and a few of the sheets inside them, are a bit crumpled, creased or torn, and there are also a few stains and smudges on the paper.

Most of the writing has been produced using a wordprocesser and printer. Some pages contain handwriting; most of this is in fine blue felt tip (or cartridge/fountain pen –it’s not quite clear which); blue biro, pencil, and thicker felt tips are used on a few pages. The pages are not numbered. Drawings are generally outlined in pencil and coloured in with crayon or pencil but ink/felt tip is also used. A ruler has been used on one page, to draw a graph. The project contains four types of ‘imported’ materials: a set of 6 photos, an RSPCA information sheet, a folded poster, four small leaflets and a postcard; some are inserted in sleeves, the others loose.

In general, the project is quite neatly put together, and there has been an attempt to protect the majority of the pages, although the loose ones fall out easily, and signs of wear and tear on binder, sleeves and pages seem to point to accidental damage both prior to and during production.

Comments on specific pages

This is the front cover of the binder. The title and author information have been written on a long strip of paper which has been inserted vertically into the narrow ‘pocket’ down the left side. Most of the title page is visible through the transparent part of the cover.

This page is initially seen through the plastic cover of the binder. The working surface is white paper. In the writing, pencil has been used for the word ‘Woof’ and to outline the title, which is coloured in felt tip; the letter ‘D’ has been coloured using a mixture of pink or orange and yellow felt tip; the letter ‘H’ appears to have been drafted in orange felt tip as well as pencil. The picture has been outlined in pencil and coloured in with crayon. There is only the one sheet in this sleeve; the felt tip strokes have come through the paper and are visible from the other side.

There are some crayon marks along the top –evidence of accidental damage.

The picture is drawn and coloured in pencil, using a variety of different strokes: straight, curly, heavy, soft.

The writing is in felt tip/cartridge/fountain pen; the drawing is outlined in pen and coloured using a mixture of orange and pinkish-red crayon; the ear has been shaded much more heavily than the rest of the body. A stain on the body of the dog, where the crayon has run, indicates contact with some kind of colourless liquid.

With this page there are six photos inserted loosely, one beneath the other, in the plastic sleeve. The writing at the bottom of this page is in blue biro.

page 20 [ next page ] [ previous page ] [ top ] [ LR62 index ]

The working surface is a sheet of A4 graph paper. The writing has been drafted in pencil, visible beneath the blue ink pen. In the graph, pencil lines are visible beneath the crayon; the pencil lines have been ruled, but not the crayon. Erased pencil lines indicate alterations to the positions and numbers of the months (along the horizontal axis).

The work is in blue felt tip/fountain/ cartridge pen on a sheet of lined filepaper. There are four holes in the side of the sheet (the other lined sheets only have two) and the lines and margin are lighter than in the other sheets; this indicates that it comes from a different pad. There is some evidence of accidental damage: the bottom left hand hole is torn and the corner of the page has been completely torn off.

page 22 [ next page ] [ previous page ] [ top ] [ LR62 index ]

The work is in blue felt tip/fountain/ cartridge pen on a sheet of lined filepaper. This is a loose, single sided sheet; it is not enclosed in a sleeve.

page 22a [ next page ] [ previous page ] [ top ] [ LR62 index ]

This page consists of imported material: an A4 information leaflet, inserted loosely into the binder, not enclosed in a sleeve. It has been folded across, just below the centre, and is quite creased and crumpled, and beginning to get ragged around the edges; it appears to have been handled a good deal. There are dirty brown marks top left, indicating contact with some kind of brownish liquid /substance.

page 22b [ next page ] [ previous page ] [ top ] [ LR62 index ]

This page consists of imported material; it is the reverse side of page 22a. The mathematical calculation, in biro, on the left, may relate to this project, or may point to previous use.

page 22c [ next page ] [ previous page ] [ top ] [ LR62 index ]

This page consists of imported material: a large poster, folded to A4 size, ie 1/8 of the original size; it is loosely inserted (not in a sleeve); it is in good condition, looks smooth and fairly untouched.

page 22d [ next page ] [ previous page ] [ top ] [ LR62 index ]

This page consists of imported materials: one small leaflet and a postcard, loosely inserted in a very worn, creased, plastic sleeve.

page 22e [ previous page ] [ top ] [ LR62 index ]

This page consists of imported materials: three small leaflets, loosely inserted in a very worn, creased, plastic sleeve.
