Potential Doctoral Proposals

  • Cognitive Linguistics. Conceptual metpahor theory and blending theory. Semantics of manner and motion verbs. Repesentation of space, time and modality. Cognitive appraoches to discourse. Comparative approaches between two or more languages are especially welcome.
  • The analysis of political discourse, especially comparative approaches, grounded in sound linguistic methods of description. Studies of discourse in languages other than English are welcome.
  • Cogntive Stylistics. Research on literary texts within a cogntive-linguistic or discourse-analytical framework.

Currently my PhD students in cognitive linguistics are working on: icnonicity, classifiers in Mandarin, manner-motion verbs in Italian and English, semantic maps, cognitive approaches to critical discourse analysis.

Research in the field of discourse studies includes: public discourse in English and French, gendered representation in Chinese popuilar fiction and in Greek lifestyle magazines, language ideology in the United States,political discourse in Kenya.
