A more general question is thus raised, if we are ready to share our lives with robots or, more importantly, if they are ready to operate with us and among us in ordinary settings. One of the main difficulties are encountered when some of these designs are taken out of controlled test environments or carefully circumscribed settings and into the "wild". These images show a number of different agents, some of which have a history of being popular helping hands, i.e., Roomba the robot vacuum cleaner or robot lawn mowers (far left). What is noteworthy about all these photos however, are the environments in which the agents are portrayed. They are open with either no obstacles in sight or the obstacles are easy to navigate around.
