The Lancaster Speech, Writing and Thought Presentation Project

Welcome to the homepage of the Lancaster Speech, Writing and Thought Presentation Project. To date, we have compiled two corpora - one of spoken data and one of written texts - and tagged these using categories of speech, writing and thought presentation outlined initially in Leech and Short (1981) and developed in the work of Short, Semino and Wynne (see for example Short, Wynne and Semino 1998). We are currently using these corpora to investigate the nature of speech, writing and thought presentation in spoken and written texts.

Both corpora have been deposited at the Oxford Text Archive and will shortly be publically available.
