Born:

2nd of Ocober, 1904 in Berkhamstead, UK

Early years:

The fourth of six children, Greene was a shy and sensitive youth.

Schooling:

He went to Berthamstead School, where his father was the headmaster. He graduated with a B.A. from Balliol College, Oxford in 1925.

Career:

After graduation he worked briefly for the Nottingham Journal. In March, he returned to London, as the sub-editor for The Times. In August 1941, Greene joined the SIS, and was assigned to Freetown, Sierra Leone, in December. In early 1943 Greene returned to London to a job in Section V. He was assigned to Counter Intelligence, Portugal. He left the service in May, 1944 and joined the Political Warfare Executive, editing a literary magazine intended for France.

Final years:

Towards the end of his life he lived in Vevey, Switzerland with his companion, Yvonne Cloetta.

Died:

He died peacefully on 3rd of April, 1991 in Vevey.
