Introduction

to the memory of J. H. Whitehouse (1873-1955)
For the Verona Book to W. G. Collingwood and to John and Margaret Dawson

Welcome to Lancaster University’s AHRC-funded electronic edition of ‘Ruskin’s Venetian Notebooks: Reconstructing the Research Methods and Composition Practices for The Stones of Venice’. This is a provisional, pre-release version; further work is in hand on all aspects of the edition, and a full release will be published in due course.

The Ruskin Foundation, [who own the majority of the materials used in this project], has sought to establish the copyright for John Ruskin’s unpublished literary manuscripts, but has been unable to do so on the basis of all the information currently known to it. It would therefore welcome contact from any person or persons who can show they hold this copyright. In the first instance contact should be made with The Ruskin Library, Lancaster University, Bailrigg, LANCASTER LA1 4YH (see also here).
