1st Cap: a small figure praying. Of good [times?] leaves
well well modulated central rib
Leaves ribbed & full finished in 28th Rose border below with [straighter?] stem. and fruit out
of flower - but flower petals ribbed. unusual
-But slurred 27th These three are
& incised only in 26th vile beyond description 2nd Heads with [asses?] [ears?]. utterly barbarous.
25th I think of last period The shaft may be older the leaf border delicate
of restoration
3. Base heads: and ill worked acorn border
24th sheep
23 4. Rams heads. very bad. not so bad as
22nd ^ the previous ones.
21st
20th 5. 6 & 7 all vile -8. 9th do. All
This group [recognises?] [nothing?] above large
these have human heads -yet are old
in their vileness.
The 18th Capital the theme of the
Pisani 10th Much finer. with a delicate mans figure
- broken in upon by the heavy & common
pilasters of the bearing arch.
Note of 23rd . p. 22. palace book
To 17th . Variously bad. The 15th is old
has a small figure in better manner
18th Of white marble. eaten away . with
two delicately robed small figures. the hair
incised & fine. By comparing the real drawing
of drapery. with the base [incisions?] of it on
20th column the entire difference will be felt
In all the other caps. the figures worse than
leaves. but here better.
27th
19 -22 . difficult to say which vilest
28th - some improvement.
