most valuable for dentils
There is a nameless tomb on its north side
which has a most archaic madonna . stiff
and lifeless in action as well as in cutting
. yet it has a spirited leaf ribbed plinth -
one of the sharpest I have seen of the type of
No115 - and special shafts filled with
blocks exactly like Ducal palace.
It has gabled dentils also.
How curious. after the Grace & finish of the
Byzantine work that in the 14th century
they should have sunk back to this & to
such monstrous work as that of Marco Giustiniani
p 52. M.2. I must see what Lord L says
of this again
On the other side Peter Corner[o].
