but the plinth round sarcophagus has, though it is much
flatter generally, than the others: it is cut on same principle
and is a valuable example of transition: The figures on the
sarcophagus are in the graceful Pisan manner and their drapery
up to neck, the double spiral shafts which support the

leaves at base. There is much sympathy altogether between the leafage
and work of this tomb and that of the windows of D.P. towards
bridge of sighs. The tomb is dated 1336.
Nameless tomb opposite Duccio.

mail merely [diagram] so: The capitals which carry canopy
are the closest to Police house possible with branched ribs
in the curl over, only a little more flow in the lobes;
The flat frieze between dentils with a vein leaf tracery
instead of the projecting leaf plinth is a most marked
feature, of the early work: But it is fast passing into the
Duccio manner.
