[M.176L] [M.176]
No 1246 San Stefano. Church of 176
San Stefano. Continued from p 166 l. seen on a level with it end
on. like a ship’s bows. (I see I am wrong in saying the
triangle is horizontal; it is evidently raised a little above
the bell as it sweeps down) and then the bell itself
is cut into a deeper concave: giving relief to all the leaves
upon it: Blocks being left originally for the curled
lobes which spoil it, and mark the transition period.
The section through the side is given most carefully
- every line measured real size; on No 1246 wherein
note especially the receding slope of the base of the dog tooth,
- th advancing slope of the edge of the bell; precisely what
I have called transitional Ap; and finally the dotted
line marking the original contour of the bell, while
the inner line is the actual concave cut to leave the leafage
projecting.
