door at fig 1 and one side of its superimposed niche at
fig 2. As there are 27 dentils & as many spaces in the
chord along top of door: the dentil & double space below the
base of the column gives its size: the Basrelief is on
one piece of stone; the two ledges each with four roses on
under surface, (two only drawn in fig 2 to show mode of
rude junction at top) are clumsily fitted to it - their section
is shown on the fissure at a; the capital and shaft being
curved by themselves with a back piece set into the brickwork

It is a peculiarly sinuous and shell like leaf, and remarkable
for the excavation beneath it; and its want of a rib
or other ornament, though finished in cutting: C. is the
profile of leaf of fig 2: D the section of the leaf
capitals fig 3 E that of the red Lombard capital, though
owing to its height above the eye I cannot altogether answer
for the way the dog tooth is set.
No 41. Door Window joining door no 40 th mode of junction is
seen in No 42, Fig 1 when a portion of the arch is given
in true relation to the squares on right hand of door; Fig
2 gives measures of door, height of door way, a-b =
a-b = 9 " 4 width of door way, a - c = 6 " 4 entire
width to outside of dentil on each side, d e 11 "10½
giving 2 " 9¼ for mere breadth of mouldings.
