I believe the Vegetable rib of Doge pal cap shows an earlier
The Doges robe always same - ermine cape of above straight period: The classicalists formalised. The middle
dress - ermine only carved on the border. period only was imitative.
This tomb comparatively plain, on ground level in north aisle. the cherubs heads with their wings which occupy upper
parts gables of this tomb may have suggested their common use in
later balconies.
Tomb of Michael Steno - died 26th December, 1413.
Ermine painted black on cape of robe - cut only at edges -
Face bad - both as a man’s, in cutting draperies stiff
excessively. Sarcophagus plinth all round as opp:
the shafts at edge only incised leaves - not ribbed. The
base of spiral shafts fanciful but with curled angle
leaf rib.
