Case Porta di FERRO CONT[E]ARINI: Certainly the most graceful 14th
century work I have found externally in Venice: at p 63
Gothic book one of the arches of its balustrade, real size
with one of the intermediate leafage groups, each foil
of the spiral successively laid over the other some half
an inch deep and beautifully modilated: Compare with the
central boss, that of the great roses of the flower
plinth of the arch of Agnes Venier, noted at p 17.
at page 63 1 a - b and a 2 b2 real size, is the
verti[c]cal section and cd the horizontal section of the
balustrade through its cusps c c2 dd 2 being the cusp
projection I found it impossible in the drawing to
show the grace and suddenness of the depression of the main
leaf lobe to its point. The section along its central
depression from x to y on p 63 would be as opposite fig 1.
Bas reliefs in front of Academy delle belle arti. There
are three now in the middle higher than the rest,
over the door way: under the canopy of which a side of
the top is[f] given, at fig 1 p p 72 1 Gothic book. The
small figure in the ridge of the gable of course much fore-
shortened in drawing is highly cutious Under it is a
Madonna with fo ying angels on each side beautifully
quaint and bold in placing and cutting, and exceedingly
like the two on each side of the
