No 32. CA DANIELI
than blocks with the spiral headed truncation on their
four sides which is drawn in No on the stone arch
jamb of Verona.
Palazzo Born Mocenigo (Danieli)
No 32. Fig 1 Two lines traces continuously upon
the left hand cusp of one of the hall arches, x, x, ax2,
ax3 is of course continuous: the cusp point - broken
off, completed in dotted lines: ax2 in the other line
School 5 E. is the same point ax2 of the first: laying over line
over the other: coinciding below ax2, we have the whole
cusp down to the abacus of capital x4, x5.
No 32, Fig 2. section of the stonework as it falls on the
ft. in abacus, This is real size, the paper fitted to the mould-
a d 1 " 7½ ing, and quite accurate: only for clearness; note
a b 1 " 8 1/3 figure opposite; when let a b c d be the abacus, which is
a c 1 " 6 square, then the stonework[n] is moulded only on the outer
c C 2 " 6 angles, and is brought fairly back to the edge of the abac-
d c 3 " 8¼ cus behind, a singularly archaic method: the cusp emerges
at the point ci beginning to spring at the very abacus -
yet with s[n]o subtle a curve that it only shows itself as a
traced line for a few niches: then steals out most grace-
fully and falls back to the apex in the same exquisite
manner. the section of this cusp is indicated in fig 1
opposite by[x] the line c1, c2, c3, c4, its outline is rudely
traced in fig 2 opposite
