                                                                      I have looked again at its capitals
                                                                      to compare them with the rest - its central
                                                                      one is of red marble ( - as well as the
                                                                      bays of its central shafts) and first rate
                                                                      in its bricking. and its lateral ones are
                                                                      also very good in style and apparently
                                                                      of same period - but far inferior in
                                                                      cutting - they puzzle me sadly -
                                                                      They have no heads. and . on the whole
                                                                      are the finest capitals / except those of the
                                                                      4th window of the upper series.
                                                                       -Half of this central capital also split
                                                                      away by the iron & the other half painted
                                                                      grey where the window frame was fitted
                                                                      Observe the cutting of the bad capitals here is
                                                                      not worse than & very like that, of the 3rd from
                                                                      the angle of the Porta: my bird one.
                                                                        Even the noble [Justice?] Capital
                                                                         is hardly so smooth & fine in leaf cutting
                                                                        as this central one.
