This recess has [diagram] a b and this broken off short at a and
a window instead of b. emerges in the
a door. opening on the shapes shaded . from
basic plinth the alabaster slabs
full of fine old ironwork of vertical wall.
Its jamb section in dolomite It has been
highly complicated broke away
Curiously enough. the window and all along
lower member of great central behind the
plinth are inclined to the front porphyry
wall of upper arch at this shafts
angle I cannot in the
least

what it carried
Above this shallow upper plinth
there is nothing whatever but the
plain [wagon?] vaulting the flat arch
which is 9 “ 6 high above it exactly
under the soffit
Now this arch stands on the shaded cornice
above which projects about 3 inches on one
side & over on the other beyond the wall now
the wall piers are just 21 feet apart giving
20 “ 8. for the arch span.
This is of course the sub arch.
