     The last chapter* was devoted to the proof of the fact . that objects
     become indistinct & confused in form as they retire from the eye
 5   and that Turner only . follows nature in this her constant practise [sic].
     I have now to show in what manner . and what parts of them .
     grow indistinct. and to prove that Turner renders his distances
     indistinct in the same manner . and in the same parts .
     And now I* must present a few plain facts - for which I beg
10   the practical reader to forgive me - as I can assure him - there
     are very few who can call themselves connoisseurs - who
     are acquainted even with the alphabet of practical art. and
     to which I beg the unpractical reader to give serious attention -
     as I shall have constantly to use the terms whose meaning I wish
15   <now> once for all . to define

     it at right angles. is the most luminous part of that object .
     and whether it be as in a sphere - a mere point - or as it may be
     in a cube . a whole side . it is called by artists the High Light.
