Ruskin 's reference is to the church of San Grisostomo (San Giovanni Crisostomo) which lies in the south-eastern corner of the Venetian sestiere of Canareggio. It is the last work of the Venetian Renaissance architect, Mauro Codussi (Coducci), and was constructed between 1497 and 1504. It is built on a Greek-cross plan derived from Byzantine precedents and contains, amongst other works, Giovanni Bellini 's St. Gerome with St. Christopher and St. Louis of Toulouse (1513) and Sebastiano del Piombo's Giovanni Crisostomo with six Saints (1510-1511). Ruskin refers to the work by Bellini.
